We are enrolled in a 6 week baby class and we have 2 weeks under our belts so far. Its a great class taught by Heather Duncan called Birthing From Within. It is based on the book Birthing From Within that my midwife suggested I read. I am almost finished with the book and would recommend it to EVERYONE! Its so great! It really has opened my eyes to the birthing process, parenthood, preparing, feeling empowered as a woman and so much more! The book and classes focus on those families preparing for natural birthing, pain coping techniques, and basically "birthing from within" yourself. I have felt alot of strength as we prepare for our inevitable birth (the baby has to come out one way or another) and I really want to do it naturally. For those of you that don't know, we are planning to have a home birth! Crazy you're probably saying but we feel really good about it. I am young, healthy, have had no complications or prior complications, have researched and studied about the plan I feel best about and really feel like this is the right decision for us. Home birth isn't for everyone, I understand that, but I really encourage people to learn more about it and open their minds to the possibility that it can be done and is very safe. Our class has 3 couples and one of the other couples is planning a home birth too, its their first as well and its been great to talk with her about their plans and fears and thoughts. Braden and I are really looking forward to this experience and I'm excited to be able to labor in my own home, with my things, have the freedom to move around and be with my husband, my mom and our midwife (and her assistant) as we bring this special spirit into the world. 9 more weeks and our little guy will be here (hopefully!)

Amanda! Thanks for sharing your experience! It is really good to read others points of view. Good luck with everything!
That's so exciting that have decided to do a home birth! I am so excited for ours in Oct. I think it will be such an empowering experience! 9 weeks is coming quick! Good luck with everything!
I can't wait to hear all the details! I am so glad you are going natural at home with good support. You'll be so glad! It is brave to post about it though...I get soooooo sick of people naysaying my choices out of some bizarre sense that they feel inferior or something because they don't do it the same way as I do. Anyway, you go!
Oh my goodness, it is really getting close! I'm an RN and have assisted births in the hospital and at home. All were successful! Actually, I think midwives give you more one-on-one attention and they really know how to speed up those deliveries in a natural way! And believe me they know faster than doctors when something is not right and will get you the help faster than I have seen in the hospitals! Good Luck!
Amanda,
I had all 5 of my babies at home. It is an amazing experience. I wouldn't have traded these births for the world! I'll be thinking about you.
