Shots, ugh, there is no way I am going to allow my sons pediatrician to stick him with 6 vaccinations in one day at his 2 month app. I have some options either I can do it in a couple of visits or not do some of them at all. So now comes the research on the 6 vaccinations that are SUPPOSED to be given, I will choose the ones I actually want done and still probably have them done over a period of time. My child is too important to me to have all those vaccines overwhelm his system and possibly cause harm if done all at once. Anyways, just clarifying my previous post "2 week checkup".

already you have become your son's advocate. you are going to be such a great mom!
sounds like you are making an educated decision.
isn't all the worrying fun?
Glad you made this decision. Just a tip, give him some tylenol prior to the appointment, it will help tremendously.
I think that's great the effort you're making. What a great mommy. =)
wow 6 shots! I don't remember Imogen getting that many in one visit. She usually gets 4 shots at a time. You are such a good mom to research all of it. Good luck!
I loved our pediatrician we had before we moved. I actually did that free "interview" thing lots of offices offer now. She answered any questions I had, was so patient, and I felt so comfortable with her. I think that the relationship you have with your doc is so important. Once you build that trust, you can talk things through, ask about your research, and make decisions. In my experience, shots were never a big deal and we were done by 18 months without very many per visit.
Hi Amanda,
The typical immunization schedule for a two month visit includes these vaccines:
1. Hepatitis B
2. Rotavirus (this one is oral)
3. DTaP (diptheria, tetanus, pertussis all in one shot)
4. Hib (Haemophilus influenzae type B)
5. Pneumococcal
6. IPV (Inactivated Poliovirus)
Depending on the clinic's resources, some of the above immunizations can be combined to reduce the number of pokes. The clinics I've worked at typically complete these in 4 shots plus the oral rotavirus. Again, these are done routinely.
I think it's great that you're doing research. There's a lot of information on the internet, so it's good to exercise caution. Here are some good evidence-based resources:
From the American Academy of Pediatrics regarding the fear of multiple vaccines weakening an infant's immune system:

Take care! Mason is beautiful!

With my experience taking kids (the ones I have nannied for) to get their shots, it is best to break them up. Most of them have a big reaction and end up sick. If your munchkin gets sick, don't sweat it because it is normal. Some kids even end up vomitting and having the runs for days after. Good luck!
